Talking Finally got this washing/waxing thing down.



After owning a 94 z28, black with crappy repaint. I got to practice on that. At the very least I didnt care if it got messed up, its crappy paint.

Well bout 1-1/2 ago I landed my 2002 T/A that was NBM which is just as hard to keep clean. The only thing is that it does have nice paint and low milage so now it was "GO" time and keep up on it.

Mind you I do not have any exp with a buffer, just hand washing, drying and waxing.

I always had access to a garage so most of the elements stay of which is really good.

This is pretty much what I do: It anyone has a pointer or comment, feel free

1) Have all supplies ready.
-Car was soap (maguires, cold water, microfiber mit thats only used with this car)
-Quik Detailer (Maguires again)
-Microfiber towels (6-10)
-Wax (Turtle Wax Ice)
-Armor all leather treatment
-Bleech White
-Brush (For the tire)
-Invisble Glass (with paper towels)
-Tire Shine Gel
-Large bath towel or shammy (sp)

2) Remove car from garage (cool paint surface), roll to a shady part of the drive way.

3) Hand rub leather treatment into the leather and shut the door.

4) Rinse tires, bleech white and scrub. Then re rinse *we will come back later* Also hit my real corsa exhaust tips.

5) Then rinse the car from top to bottem, letting the heavy stuff come off.

6) Washed the car with car soap and do the whole thing. I can break it up into sections and I really should

7) Re-rinse, keeping the car cool.

8) Using the towel, get all the heavy stuff off, pushing it off. I DO NOT use blades. The was only one that worked and I cant find it again. It was just like a window wiping blade and it flexed and confirmed to surface and it didnt leave rubber on the car....

9) Then finish drying with the micro fiber towels.

10) Slam the car doors, let the car bleed out more water. OR use a leaf blower. Hit any missed spots.

11) Wipe rims with paper towels and re-gel them with tire shine, let sit.

12) Using quik detailer and ensure the surface is clean and with out spots.

13) Bout every 3-4 washes I rewax, section by section. Then wipe/buff.

14) Invisble glass the outside and inside. But not letting the windows roll down until it dries.

That took about 1-1/2 hours to do but now it looks sweet.

The car doesnt need much clay bar, the front had old bug stains where is nothing that feels like bug stains but they are there. On the bumper its due for a clay bar due to some exhaust soot.

If you're really serious about detailing, some of us could reinvent your method above.

Give us close-ups of your paint so that we can see how you're doing.

I just tried out my absorber for the first time and couldn't believe how much time I had wasted doing it the old way. That thing is awsome!

I got a camera, ill take some pics tommorrow, then re set up a hosting site. I have a Fquick Account, so it shouldnt be an issue

Anyone got a link for the Asorber?

It did rain today, while I drove home, it had stopped and all the rain just rolled off.

I'll advise against the absorber. While I do have one, I learned to shy away from it. Chamois are generally frowned upon when drying off the car. Unlike microfiber which pulls dirt into the towel and away from the paint, a chamois makes full contact with the car's paint. Any dirt caught will be rubbed against the paint which could cause scratches.

For a good way of drying the car, unscrew the nozzle part of your hose and let the water come out freely. Hose down the car and all of the water sheets off leaving only a few spots of water that can be easily dabbed up with a microfiber towel.

You've definitely got the process down, so lets see those pics!

Btw, since you have a dark car, give Meguiar's #26 Wax a try. Best OTC wax for dark colors IMO. Its so easy to work with and smells like bananas.

The only thing I will say is that Bleech White is some strong *** stuff. Really good for cleaning the tires, especially white-walls on cars that use them. However, When I was "learning" I stained some nice aluminum wheels instantly with that about 14 years ago and I will never use it again.
