Yeah, it's been done before...

but this is the first time I've done it.

Yes, I ended up taking the whole bumper cover off. Bitch all you want about it being "the long way", but the way my luck has been running lately, I wouldn't have been surprised if I went to pull the grille off and ended up tearing the entire nose apart. Having the nose off also helped me mount it with zip ties, as opposed to wood screws. The "slats" are so close together on this one that a #4 wood screw barely fit, and I ended up buggering up the black part in a couple spots while putting them in. I ended up drilling a few small holes in the fascia instead and used big black zip ties.

While I had it off, I mounted the new license plate bracket and applied a little touch-up paint, to help hide the massive scuff marks.

I like it. There is a little touching-up to do as far as fitting and some painting (where the aforementioned screws did some damage), but the brushed grille goes well with the brushed centers on my wheels.

I really like the grille but am totally confused on the plate and bracket and why it needs to be there. Is this mandatory in Pearland, Tx?

It's mandatory in all of Texas. Most people just go without and risk getting a ticket.

My brother is a cop. I'd never hear the end of it.

Nice work but damn that messes up the whole front of the car and grille but no alternative.

Kingc8r Jul 21, 2008 01:12 AM

I would just take the verbal assault from your bro IMHO lol

it'll look better in the middle of the grile, of course best is without, but it looks good

Hey I think I might have raced you... maybe. I'm the sunoco'd green LT1 in pearland. And I just have my license plate attached with suction cups to my windshield. Haven't had a problem in the 2 years I've had the car.

I doubt it, since I'm not much of a racer. I think I've seen your car around, though.

I know it would look better without the plate. I'm just not going to give the police a reason to pull me over.

if the cop wants to be a dik, he can still give you a ticket, as the law states the lp has to be in the most upfront section of the car, not inside the cab or on the dash.

I always get pulled over for no front plate, but usually it's late at night, and I think they're just checking if I'm drunk or stoned. In the past year, I've been pulled over about 7 times for no front plate, all ending with warnings if anything at all. I always say I bought it that way, and didn't know it was illegal, but I'll take care of it asap.

This is in Austin, fwiw. They seem to be bored enough to pull me over, yet lazy enough to not write a ticket, lol

And I like where you put it. It doesn't take away from the front as much as taping it to the grill would. You should make it detachable though, that'd be cool. Just take it off for shows and pictures and whatnot

one of the better solutions for the plate, ive been lucky that most the cops around my neck of the woods dont care or they know me i just have to watch out for the hwy patrol

damn i was wanting to put a bow tie on the middle of my grill,,,,,, i may make my bracket go JDM and slap it off to the side of the bumper

TXws6 Jul 21, 2008 04:05 PM

looks good. I feel ya about the front plate mike... houston area sucks with front plates. I have been in an TransAm since i was 16 and i have had the front plate cover on a total of one week. In that week i got pulled over 3 times with warnings. Just not worth the extra attention for the cops.

My car must be less noticable than yalls because i've only been pulled over(state trooper) once for it, and I live in Pearland.

Crows93Z Jul 21, 2008 05:13 PM

i think you should lose the billet grille. doesn't really add anything. and put the plate on your air dam.

Mr. Camaro Jul 21, 2008 06:46 PM

Like I said 2 years and I've never been pulled over. My brother did the same thing in his Tahoe and got pulled over once for it. The cop thought he didn't have a front plate and pulled him over, he got to the window, saw the plate in the windshield and apologized to my brother for pulling him over and sent him on his way. Not all cops are dicks :)
