Default Parking Brake Question - Can The Lever be Removed?

If someone knows the answer to this it could save me a lot of time trying finding out for myself. Can the parking brake lever be removed from the assembly? The arm I am talking about is the black arm that sticks out of the console...not the leather handle...the metal arm itself. I didnt know if it was spot welded together, riveted or bolted. Also how is the button on the end held in place?

The reason I ask is I would like to have that arm chromed to match a few other interior pieces I am doing.

not sure on that question but i know in order to take off the leather grip you have to drill out that rivet on the drivers side.

Yeah, thats not a big deal. On 3rd gens it had a screw there holding it. I was just hoping somebody had an assembly out of a car they could look at and see what there is to taking it apart. Screws, bolts and rivets arent a big deal....but if its welded together I am not sure its worth screwing with. Although it would look damn good and as far as I know no one else has ever done it.

Have you thought about chrome vinyl? You could probably wrap that thing easier than trying to figure out how to get it apart. Plus, that is not a very focal area, it would probably look just as good as chrome.

Just a thought.

No...I would never even dream of doing that.

The black part is what I am talking about. There are two pins at the front holding it on but I am not sure about the pivot point (I cant see it in the car without taking the console apart.) I can replace the pins with nuts and bolts but it looks like the pivot point is pressed together.

I think I have the assembly sitting in my garage. I can take a look or send along some pics if you need.

Yeah, that and the chrome shifter stick would be a very subtle but classy touch to the console and should match well with the other few chrome/polished accents I have on the dash (the XM is gone now.)

That would be great...I would really apprecaite it! I was going to buy one off ebay but pics may save me some trouble. If you get a chance just see if you can tell what holds that arm in place and if it can be removed and then reassembled. The pivot point is the main point of intrest I think.

No bolts on that whole arm assembly that I can see, all riveted. PM your email and I'll send pics if you want.
