Default Ever Rebuilt a tranny? Hard? Is this a good kit?

So im H/C my TA and worried the tranny wont hold up. SO im thinking of rebuilding my tranny with a kit. what are your thoughts on this kit and how hard is it?

I will be running a VIG 3600 if it makes a difference?

Well the kit looks to be ok, I will note however that if you have never built a transmission much less a 4l60e you will likely find it a mammoth undertaking , I would not suggest you try this unless you doing it as a learning experience and this is not your daily driver and you have plenty of time to spend on it, You will also need several specialty tools that are not included in this kit. If you doing it this way just to save money you will likely end with as much or more in it as you would just buying a trans from one of the sponsors here,

I agree 100%....not a good easy tranny to start off with and not have any help.

IMO the AOD is easier and less involved than the 4L60E but hey its was still and accomplishment you got it to work many time first times builders of anything do actually fail

why not just put a big cooler and temp guage on yours, it will prolly hold up fine, as long as you keep it from getting hot

I wouldn't mess around with a cheap build for a performance car. It will end up costing you more when you have to send it to one of the big performance shops to fix all of the problems.

Throw some billet 2nd and 4th gears servos in it and a transgo HD2 kit. This is what I ran in mine for 2 years. I had a 5.3 with a cam and a 150 shot and it never gave me any trouble, and I sprayed through the shifts every time. I finally broke it at the LSX shootout when I hooked up on drag radials, but it wound up breaking the output shaft before it burnt any clutches or the band. The clutches, steels, and band all looked like they could have been out of a low mileage tranny and mine had 107,xxx miles on it. By the way throw the 3-4 clutch release springs in the transgo kit away. They actually make 3-4 clutch burnup worse rather than better.

How so? I have been using them for years. There are many things that go into a good build. More than just a quality shift kit. I personally have had success with using them and in applications where an engine is turning over 5000 rpm, I think it is a good idea. Vince

+1 on not getting much for $1000. Feel free to give us a call to discuss your situation.

Happens every day. I get these calls all the time. I was working on a 4l80e today that never had a chance. Came in with low line pressure and not working correctly. My tare down guy took it apart last week and was like WTF is this. Mind you he is not a builder but has stripped down many cores. Kind of scary to see what some people charge for and still can sleep at night. Vince
