4L60E Difference in 4.3's awd 4x4???
 

I blew a head gasket in my 1998 bravada a couple months ago. I first planned to do a LT1 swap but that ended being too much of an investment for me at this time. So i sold the LT1 :[ and decided to get another 4.3. After some research i found out that it would be cheaper for me to get one out of a newer vehicle. In my case out of a 2003 silveraldo with 30k miles for 500 bucks :] and all i have to do is change my oil pan, intake, manifolds and modify a sensor on the back of the motor. Now the question is__can i do the same for the transmission? Since i have 160k on mine i feel like i should get something with less mileage....so can i use a 2wd trans and just swap out the end shaft, so my transfer case will bolt up or even a 4x4 trans? I would like to find something like the motor-Great mileage and price. Are they that much different? Or should i just save up for a bit and rebuilt the trans i have now? thanks for any input. btw i really wanted to make it a V8!! maybe next time.....:bang:

well a silverado 4.3 in 2003 runs a 300mm 4l60e so your old trans will not bolt up to the motor properly. and changing the 2wd trans to a 4wd might work but there may be a difference in the driveshaft length because i believe a 300mm 4l60e is a bit longer than a standard bravada 4l60e. I think you might be opening a big can of worms with using that style motor.

i hope that's not true...i thought all 4.3's were basically the same except the knock sensor in the back as long as i used my intake, manifolds and old pan. i have to take that trans out anyways because it's going to be almost impossible to get it to go back in the same way it came out. as soon as i have the trans out sunday so i know by then. what's the 300mm stand for??
