Fairly a lot. It depends on the internals. They can take a lot if built right.

i know many guys that run Super Gas in NHRA that put down that much power and run 9.90s and dont have any issues whatsoever, the 400 is a very stout trans and if it is built well it can be nearly indestructible

Definitely one of the strongest 3 speed autos. Stronger than a th350...or you could go with a powerglide if you're really worried.

In the middle of a Th400 swap right now in my 99 Camaro. My understanding is built properly in a full weight car (say 35-3700lbs) they work well up to 800-900. After that it's probably time for the Powerglide. I'm sure many have pushed them harder or less but that's the rule of thumb I'm sticking with.

Thats for stock hard parts. With billet parts, they will go very far. Ever heard of a turbo-glide? Its a 400 launching in 2nd gear (Some Pro-mods use them).

Wow, that's good news to hear. I feel sure I won't ever make enough power to hurt it and if I do I will upgrade to the billet parts. Thanks
