Default Anyone ever run a old phoenix 4000 stall, is it to big for my car, 60' help

I run a old green Phoenix 4000 stall in my th400 trans. First this is what i have

1989 mustang notch
98 ls1
241 heads with ls6 springs
stock 98 cam
1 3/4 long tube headers
4" air intake
stock ls1 intake
alum driveshaft
3:55 gears
drag springs w/ air bag
upper and lower control arms
275-50-15 et drags
car is 3080 lbs with me in it
th400 trans
4000 stall

My best was 1.73-1.76 60' , I would think it should do better. When cold it seems to hit pretty hard and shift hard . But when it get up to temps [ engine 165*] it seems real sloppy hit real soft and cant feel the shifts. I do run a cooler on the trans.
