Are all 4l80e's the same ?

I have a 2001 4l80e in my 67 chevelle and I am looking for a spare , are there any differences that I should be looking for or are they all the same ? thanks for the help. JOHN

People generally want the '97+ ones due to the upgraded electronics. They also have the 12 o'clock bolt hole on the bellhousing.

also make sure it's a 2wd trans and not a 4wd version...

they made diff changes thru the years, pretty much around 95 up is good
sup very early had a diff force motor requirement
the 12 o clock hole thing is good, but i have found the same year trans w/wo it, so for some reason they didnt use it in some alppcs.
yours prob has the rear return line, an older one would have it up front, so a diff line would need to be run
i have aquired a few spares myself, lol-had a string of them bought for $100
hate to pass them up that cheap

1997 and up have the center lube, and other lube mods.
1999 and up had the 12 o'clock bolt hole, wider front band, wider planetary gears.
2001 and up have a different overrun roller clutch.

As long as they work they work well.
The differences are good to know when swapping parts.
