Bad Transmission Mount? (A4 trans)
Whenever my car is at a stop and I "stomp" it a bit, it feels like a sledgehammer hits the bottom of the car. Is that the trans mount taking a dump? Thanks!

It could be the transmission mount or the torque arm mount. Your best bet is going to be to get the car up in the air and inspect them both. They will both feel the same, like a sledgehammer hitting you in the elbow from inside the console. haha. Good luck and keep us posted.

The mount itself can break. You will be able to see the torque arm resting against the floor board if the torque arm mount is broken. The 98+ transmission mount are quite a bit stronger than the previous unit, so I've seen more torque arm mount failures in the 98+ cars then I ever did in the 93-97 cars. That is why I mentioned the torque arm mount. If the torque arm mount looks good then turn your attention to the transmission mount.

OK. It was the biggest PITA but I replaced it with a prothane mount that I got from Summit. Not the best solution but it will work. It fixed the problem. Thanks!

@nvr_spds, thanks for the heads-up on the motor mounts. I'll keep an eye on those as well. Car has 135,000 miles on it so it might be time to replace those.
I was nervous about installing the Prothane mount given the stories about excessive NVH from the poly mount, but I kind of like the feel. It almost feels like there is an SOTP improvement, but then again, my butt dyno may need tuning . There is a slight increase in NVH, but it's really noticeable in 3rd gear when everything is turning at a 1:1 ratio. I would imagine this will lessen over time as the mount "wears in".
