Newbie 4L80 owner, is this how stall should work?
As some of you might know, I was swapping M6 for 4L80E on my turbo 383 LS1. I've never had autos before so don't know how stall works, but I was a bit surprised - to get it moving, I should rev to some 1600-1700, while to keep up with traffic from the lights I have to rev to some 2300. Is this normal? I have 3.73 gears if that matters

doesnt seem like your taking off in first to me, i have a 3800 stall and it takes gas to get it moving but it seems to accelerate quicker then that..
i see your ses light is on maybe for the trans? might be in limp home mode

What stall do you have stock or performance? Also remember the 4l80e has a 2.48 first gear, 4l60e has a 3.06 first gear. Rear gears will help it move out faster also not slow it down

I have to give mine about 1400rpm's to get moving in 1st, but once I'm in 3rd or 4th the most it takes for me to keep speed up a hill or keep up with traffic from 35-55mph is 2200-2500rpm. I try to hit my lock-up switch as soon as I hit 50mph to help with mpg. This is with a 3800 stall. With my old 3200 stall it only took 1000rpm to get moving and 2000rpm to keep up with traffic, it truly felt stock and got good gas mileage in town. That was also with 3.08's. New set-up kills gas in town at about 14-15mpg, but once I'm on the highway at 70 I get 20-22mpg.

I suspected low oil level but check it 3 times already, it's even a bit more than normal.

P.S. My TC doesn't want to lockup, only did it twice on a trip on a hot day, I read a bit and some people write it wouldn't lock until tranny fluid warms up to a certain temp, but I couldn't find such a parameter in HPTuners. How do you manually lock TC? Do you tap into S ("TCC Control" wire)? And, is there 12V or ground?

Then why do people put manual TC lock switches? As a former stick guy I'd like to have more control over tranny (and better mileage, of cause)
In short... This is 98' LS1 TransAm. I put TC78 turbo on it, swapped PCM to 00', and just a week ago I more or less finished swapping M6 for built 4L80E. Converter is multi-disc, 3500 stall, from Circle-D (thanx again, Chris). I tune this all with HPTuners. They had 4L80 segment swapped for me (into my M6 file, maybe it wasn't the best idea and I should have started with auto tune??). Wired everything by myself, both PCM and tranny.
Obviously I don't know anything about tuning this thing, so I'm trying to learn. The major disappointment was that I have to rev it to 2300 to take off in city, I used to start from 700-900rpm with M6, without extra noise and gas burning. But from your words and couple of vids I found on Youtube that seems normal for such stall. I'd have to get used to it (or figure out how to lock it early down low, on small TPS).
Now few obvious problems are,
1) terrible vibration after ~55mph (I put new steel driveshaft during swap)
2) TC doesn't want to lock up (did it only on one trip). I can't for now figure out why it doesn't want to lock. Probably smth. to do with fluid temps?
3) in HPTuners, converter slip is almost always 80% which is obviously wrong
P.S. Didn't yet test to what rpm does TC flash, maybe if it's more than 3500, than restall is needed? which would be very bad cause shipping of that thing to US and back would cost fortune

It looks pretty normal.
If I had a phone that took video I would shoot one at lunch as I drove the car into work today.
My converter flashes between 3800-4000.
I would say with my driving style it sits at about 2500 while accelerating normally away from a stop light.
