Default Best thing i have ever done for my tempermental 4L60

i had a trans cooler. ran my trans low on fluid a couple times. had to change the filter. then i added this fan on top of my cooler.

i have not had a sloppy shift due to hot fluid ever since. this was the best decision i ever made.

after riding around town for hours with friends and stuff. trans still shifts with great force and firmness

i could not believe that i didn't think about it before.

i had been getting seriously poor around town shifting before my fan. The cooler had always been on the car. now it breathes. its great.

People should do this for 4L60s. worth the 40$ i spent in wiring, clips, the fan, relay, everything.

what trans cooler do you have and what fan did you end up using?

Do you have the fan set up to pull or push the air?
Thanks

Thanks for the link. I just ordered one to put on my BMW's engine oil cooler as it tends to overheat during road course racing. I check how well it would fit on my '81 Camaro too.

bumping this back up....

Has anyone else tried that eBay fan? doesn't seem bad for a few bucks to add the extra insurance. I'm thinking about adding it to my trans cooler

My cooler is 10"x10" so will the 10" fan be ok, or should I step down to a 7" so it will fit better?

I wanted to update. Fan has 2 years under its belt of constant use. And 20k miles. Changed to a 20 row stacked plate cooler.

What were your trans temps before the fan?
I just go into the cooler from the trans on my 80e and the trans goes to 150 around town and the hi 130's in lock up at 55 mph.

I do not have a gauge. But by how it feels when the fan is off and on is sloppy shifts to firm shifts respectively.

Unless you over fill it. Like I did. Mine blew out second gear tonight because it was too full and built up too much pressure.

First, sorry to hear about your trans problem!

Since you started a new thread about this, I have moved the replies here to that thread:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...-my-4l60e.html

Lets keep this thread on the topic of trans coolers and any comments about overfilling should go to the other thread.
Thanks.

How loose is your converter-I used to see a pretty good rise in temps around town with the converter unlocked as opposed to locked-I could run in 3rd locked as opposed to unlocked in 4th and see cooler temps.
