Default weird th400 issues...

so i know i need a rebuild and i am trying to have my buddy in charleston do it for me since i know he does great work (distance just makes it difficult haha)... but it's weird what is has been doing..

so i was driving it months ago and it started shifting into second very soft and slowly... i got a few miles and it started making weird noises... i stop let it cool and drive it again and have no second. it just free spun until i shifted into third (manual valve body). i said **** it and drove it for a while since my other car had issues at the time. i kept driving it and first has never had issues.. reverse sometimes would clunk into gear and or not engage or intermittedly engage. second gear kept free spinning and thirs gear had no issues. on a 10-15 mile trip through traffic it randomly went right into second gear and since then goes into second without issues as long as i am just cruising (normal traffic speeds) but when WOT it wouldn't go into second. i have since driven it over 50+ miles without an issue other than the normal. but as it warms up the shifts seem firmer. i have not gone WOT in a while though so i don't know if it still has issues when WOT.

i just find it odd didn't know if anyone had ideas. i originally thought sprag or drum but i didn't think it would go back to working. i know driving it like this is bad for it haha. getting a rebuild either way but wasn't sure if i had hope on it not being so expensive.

It sounds like a rolled sprag.

It can work under real light load but slip under heavier throttle.
