Another day at Jake's Performance

Picking up cores today.

We're trying to get caught up with a few units and training a couple of new guys.
They are going to be busy for a couple of weeks with this load :drive:

from what I can see in this pic it looks like they are all pre 99 cores with both cooler lines near each other. May I ask why you prefer these. I am picking up a core or two to build. I currently run a 01 style trans in my GTO.

thanks

I prefer the early lube circuit and overdrive assembly.

I wish one of those cores were mine! I'm not ready to buy yet, but you will be getting a call in the not so distant future.

And they are about a 1/4 of the price!

Yup, this too! Thanks to GM's buyback program, late models are quite a bit more $$$ :bomb: It's all good though, like Jake mentioned, OD in the early models is stronger anyways :)

Might have to rebuild the trans in that truck before to long pulling that weight!

By the way my 80E has been rock solid, see how it does this year as the 9's get closer! Still have a core in my garage I need to ship to you. errrrr

Eh,
About 1/3 of the price.

It's not really worth the $500 premium in most cases to use the late model core. There are some exceptions though.

Supposedly GM is adding the extra bolt hole to the 97-99 cases and buying those back too.

They work well when put together right with a good hydraulic recipe. :)

Knock out some 9's! We're waiting.

I have a feeling that one of those cores is mine. :)

i always keep my eye out for a core-seems the only ones i run across are the newer ones, i get them for around $100-150
maybe i should sell them, lol
i know Jasper puts like a $900 core charge on them, but they really want the cores back

Nice! I am working on getting my engine and Jakes 4l80e into my nova. A little more work and the car is off to the body shop!

Thanks again Jake for the great customer service!

All of those cores are coming back from the sand blaster's next week, then it's going to be tear down/inspection/cleaning/inspection/stacking/inspection/building/inspection madness :bomb:

Now this sucks!!! I have a 2001 4l80e. Now I will be worrying about lube problems and od problems. Can my unit be upgraded to the early specs?

OD, yes. Lube circuit, no. The revisions are too extensive to change, the case itself also has revised passages.

malibutwins Mar 11, 2012 08:03 PM

Why would GM change a good thing? reverse engineering I'll have to call Jakes Performance for the details.

Lee12609 Mar 11, 2012 09:04 PM

nice, maybe one day i'll need one of these.
