Default 4l60e no first or overdrive!!!

Hey guys. About a year ago my car stopped shifting into overdrive and took off in second. The car sat until I had the trans rebuilt. Now it's still doing the same damn thing. Is this a common problem? Can anyone help me? And please tell me it's a cheap fix. I don't want to pull this thing again if I do t have too. Thanks guys!
Oh and the car is a 99 ss.

From what I've seen it is what you call a "limp home" mode. Often a shut down and restart will clear the condition. It is caused by the PCM commanding it. Aftermarket high stall converters can cause it until the PCMs are tuned properly for them. Do you have any SES codes present? Have you scanned it? I would.

When the trans was rebuilt did the shift solenoids get changed? What you are describing sounds like an issue with the 1-2 shift solenoid.

Mine was throwing/storing the 2/3 failure code, which, when triggered, immediately caused the loss of 1st/4th as a failsafe. Is yours acting correctly after a restart or is this condition permanent?

The ecu (PCM) is just the messenger, nothing wrong with it.
It sounds like an electrical problem with the trans - either a bad solenoid or a bad connector which is throwing all kinds of codes. Solve that and it will likely shift correctly again. Solenoids are cheap and replacing them only requires dropping the pan.
