Default 4L80E toughness in OD

I just recently had a 80e reblt and have read that I should have my shifter whenever I'm drag racing or want to hammer on it from a stop in 3rd or it will kill the roller bearing in the sprag.
I really thought that these were/are a tough trans and I'd could start out with the shifter in 4th.
Even If I downshift via the pedal when in OD "could" hurt it too as it only the sprag.
I had one of these trans in my 06 Express and probably weighed 6k with the material/shelving in it and was never easy on it and it still worked fine with 138k rt up till I got rear ended!
Granted this was with the 4.8l engine so that may have helped it live.
Thoughts?

To top it off there are a different OD Roller Clutches, The "Early" one is larger & can take more Shock than the Later one, Shock from a high stall converter is usually what kills them....Though they can be overpowerd as well.

100% of the torque has to pass through OD Roller Clutch taking off in D4, In D3....The Overrun Clutches are on & takes load off the Roller Clutch. While in 4th gear the Roller Clutch HAS to Overrun.

Technically the entire OD Carrier/Overrun Hub assembly can be a weak link when making BIG power & there are Billet parts available.

Do you know which OD Roller Clutch/Carrier/Overrun Hub you have?
Early design on the right.....

I'll ask my guy that rebuilt it.
It's a later model from a 2000 2500 Express van.
