4wd to2wd conversion advice needed

I tried a search but the threads I pulled up were all 6 or 7 years old, so, my question is, how hard is it? How far down do you have to tear the transmission? I am looking at an 04 5.3 with 4l60e 4x4 combo, but I have a 2000 S10 trans that has the small bellhousing that I could take the output shaft and tailhousing off of if they're compatible. I was told the input shaft on the S10 trans is smaller, so not sure if swapping the front off the Z71 trans and puttting it on the S10 would be any easier. Is any of this worth the effort or am I just crazy? Any advice appreciated.

Just find a 2wd trans basically you have to tear the trans all apart to get the output shaft swapped. And unless you doing a rebuild not worth it.

Anybody else? I have the 2wd parts, and the other trans comes with the engine, so basically have no cash in them.

Sell the 4wd trans and get one you need.
