Is using Hygaurd rather new to the auto crowd? Never heard of it. Not doubting anyone here. Funny this topic has come up because I am currently doing a conversion install using a 4l60e and just checking the stick for color and smell and it was clear and smelled like hydraulic fluid. I thought I was losing my mind. Maybe not. I was told it was built for heavy nitrous use so, maybe someone was in the know.

Amazing how some people post with no knowledge and are so stubborn rather than wanting to learn.
I think JustinsWS6 owes the op an apology.
And OP i've been using hydro for years, play with your ratios to get converter slip and stall speed where you want it.

Only concern I would have with running the Hygard or any other fluid that is heavier than standard automatic trans fluid is to be careful when it's cold. The thicker fluid is more difficult to draw thru the filter.

Thanks guys for the input. I was told by a very good trans builder that it could be ran in this transmission with no problems. Always nice to hear from real people that it's been done with good results. No need for the apology from anyone. Most of the time you go by what people tell you without doing research. I'm fine with that. That's why I asked the question

Yes that's exactly what i'm saying, it will tighten a converter, reduce big end slippage and generally run cooler.
just make sure you run SOME atf for color. Hydro fluid is a mother to see on a dipstick

I've used it in several transmissions...NO issues.

would I have to worry about that in central FL? Where it's 90 degrees year round flaunting a 3500 stall?

Launching!
Guys,
I'm looking at getting some of this tomorrow for my 4L60e, but it sounds like there are a few different versions at different viscousity? Is that correct?
Unless I'm reading incorrectly, there doesn't appear to be any mention of that on this website.

Just want to make sure I know what I'm looking for when I go in and try and buy it. I like this idea of tightening the converter a little, so the thicker stuff is what I need I think?

There's Hygard & Hygard low viscosity, the low viscosity or light is the same weight as atf. I was just in a John Deere dealer and they had both in 1 gallon jugs.
Yes thicker is what you want.

Picked some up today. AU$7.20/litre for John Deere Hy-gard vs. AU$21.20/litre for Castrol Transmax Z which I used to run. I'll mix them 50/50 and see how it goes.
Interestingly, the Hy-gard is actually darker in colour than the Transmax Z is, so should be easier to see on the dipstick compared to what I'm used to.
