Default 4l80e in a Z06. Who has done it or wants to do it.

I know the Z06 is suppose to be a 6 speed car but I am looking to do some drag racing and my wife is pissed cause she is to uncoordinated to use a stick. It is a built Z06 so it is a little harder to do a stick on. Anyways, I need to make this MF'r an auto in the next year or trade it off for a built automatic. RPM said about 15k for the conversion. Tough to spend that kind of money just to have an auto.

Well, when I got it the deal was the wife could drive it. Told her no problem you can learn to drive a stick. Well, she can't and sure as hell can't drive a Z06 with 550hp. LMAO tried to teach her in a stone cold stock Camaro and I am currently paying for a new clutch in my buddies car.
I made the mistake of if you can't drive it I will sell it for an auto. It isn't that she wants to get rid of it, she loves the car just hates the stick. She wants and auto and I want horsepower.

No such thing as "our" car... what she means is "her" car with you carrying all the liability

( I'm married 23 years and I learned that one thing )

you better quickly develop an emotional attachment to that car (it's the only excuse that may work) and buy her her own personal car.

She already know I love the car but I highly doubt I can get her another car. She is too cheap for that. That was the whole point of getting this car was to share a nice car because we both need something big for the kids and their friends. We have been together 25yrs and this has been the first auto fiasco between us and I have had a lot of other toys. I will keep on trying to teach her to drive a stick cause she aint ready to kill me yet I just don't want to spend money on clutches.

I agree. You could have an extremely nice car for that much money invested. Or sell vette and get a fast auto car to share. C5z or c6z?

It's usually $15-20k in just parts. Installation is on top of that. Most people don't understand what does into the conversion and how many parts have to be changed and custom made.

The exact reason why I built an RX-7 with LS7 power.
Corvette drivelines cost too much to make bulletproof.

I run a Cobra IRS 8.8" diff....a T56 or 4L80E will fit.

Under 2850lbs with a/c and full interior. Any ?'s Sorry... i couldn't resist!

Well for those that dont want a built auto fbody and want an auto C6Z there is an option. We were the first in the world to install a 4L80 in a C6Z. We have since installed 6-7 of them so for some people they think its worth it. When you have a 1200hp automatic C6Z You would NEVER even think about an fbody.

How? I just personally can't fathom what needs that much cash to be done.

The entire drivetrain needs to be modified. If you don't deal with corvettes it is hard to imagine that much could be required to do the job. I'll start from the engine and work my way back.

SFI Flexplate
SFI Torque tube coupler
SFI Bellhousing
ARP Flexplate bolts
Automatic torque tube
Labor to shorten the torque tube
Custom length propshaft for 1000hp
High performance propshaft couplers
SFI Converter drive plate
Custom built 4L80e converter spec'd to the customers application
Built 4L80e transmission
Labor to machine the transmission case to fit into the Corvette
Custom billet adapter plates to adapt the 4L80e to the corvette torque tube and Z06 differential
Custom 300M billet output shaft to fit into the C6 Z06 differential
Custom differential brace to strengthen the trans to differential connection
Stand alone transmission controller, wiring harness and neutral safety switch with wiring
Trans cooler and cooler lines

Normally the builds include differential upgrades as well because if the car needs a 4L80e it normally needs some upgrades.

If it's that involved why not just get an automatic Grand Sport and bump up the power? Are those transmissions not strong enough?

The new 6 speed autos are notorious for failing behind high horsepower engines. Their biggest flaw is the extreme amount of information they receive from the ECM. GM uses the 6L80e too much as a torque management device which causes all kinds of issues.

I didn't get to talk to the OP when he called the shop. I believe he spoke with Shane. For 550hp I would have recommended a 4L60e conversion. It is about half the price of a 4L80e and the car will be quicker with the steeper 3.06 first gear combined with the 3.42 rear gear.
