Auto won't go into gear need help... Is a 4l65E in a 06 GTO Just 18k miles today out of nowhere the shifter travels and won't catch in to gear, to get it to engage in drive must go all the way to first, looked under to see if the lever rod connecting the shifter to trannie had come loose but is firmly attached front and rear, in the instrument cluster the gear indicator does not register as the shifter travels true positions with out engagement any one experience this, thanks... __________________ |

Either the bolts that hold the shifter cable bracket came loose or are missing which is not uncommon or the shifter cable is broken. In some cases the nut that holds the rooster comb inside the trans loosened up. Disconnect the cable from the trans lever and move it by hand if you feel all the detents then you know the cable is the problem if it feels real sloppy at the trans then you know its inside the trans. |
There's a snap adjuster near the detent lever that can come unsnapped. |
Found the prob it was a broken plastic shifter arm underneath looking for a shifter, thanks all for your contribution..... |
