Making a 4WD 4L60E a 2Wd / cutting involved

i have a 4WD 4L60E trans and need a 2WD one.

It was suggested to me to just replace the tailshaft housing and cut off the extra output shaft length.

Sounds too good to be true. Can anyone confirm this most excellent of ideas?

The end of the output shaft needs splines for the slip-yoke and I don't think a 4WD output shaft is splined its entire length.

EDIT: I meant that the longer 2WD shaft cannot be shortened for 4WD.

I thought the 4wd shaft was shorter. I've rebuilt quite a few 700r4s/4L0s, Replacing the out put shaft isn't hard. It would be a bit of a challenge if you've never had a 4L60 apart before, but I know a guy that had never had a trans apart at all and rebuilt his following you tube videos lol.

Duh. Right. I meant that the longer 2WD shaft cannot be shortened for 4WD.
t_raven, Thank you t_raven for the correction.
