4l60 e I'm stumped and really need help I have a 03 sierra with a bad trans should I take my chances at a junkyard and pull one to put in or should I just order a rebuild kit and do it my self, I've never had to rebuild a gm transmission Idk if it's hard or not I have all the tools to do it and I'd love to learn how to rebuild them and I don't have the money to take it to a shop "common problem when you blow all your money on the motor" should I pull the trans I have and rebuild or buy a used one from the junkyard and take my chances |
Get a used one. |
Why not rebuild with a stage 1 kit |
unfortunately rebuilding a transmission is not nearly as simple as rebuilding an engine..... Ive seen many talented mechanics attempt and fail at the task on even a simple th-350/th-375b. If its just a std sierra... the junkyard unit will suffice (most of the time they even come with some sort of warranty). If not you can make the specialty tools you need for the 4l60 easily... or spend the $2000ish on a stock rebuild. |
But I've seen kids that are maybe 15 years old rebuild a 4l60 like it was nothing |

I'd get a used one... if you try to rebuild one and end up fucking it up then you worse off then you started... dont take chances if your not positive you know what your doing. Transmissions arent easy to rebuild. |
Why don't you pick up a used tranny from a junkyard and throw it in. Then tear the old one apart and learn how it all works! |

see that's what I thought todd I was told they were super easy to rebuild ive only ever done Honda transmissions but never a gm but was told if I could rebuild a Honda 6speed that id have no problem redoing a 4l60e |
Well I found out that the shift solenoids are what's making it fuck up so ima change them a see how it goes |
