Default Can you short shift a 4l80e without a fmvb

Currently in the process of swaping from T56 to 4l80e and trying to decide between a full manual valve body or keep it electronic. Can a built 4l80e be set up to shift automatic at a set shift point for racing when left in od and still be short shifted manually at a lower rpm but full throttle when playing on the street with street tires or will it wait until the set shift point to shift?

Sorry you're getting a late reply bud!

First of all, don't ever race your 4L80E in OD. Try D Save the OD for cruising around town or on the highway.

Most tunes have a 2nd gear start built in so you can short shift the 1-2 if you are shifting manually, but not the 2-3. If you're clever and doing your own tuning you can wire up the tow haul mode and have two shift tables.

Thanks a lot for that information. That will work perfect for me. So can I just wire a toggle switch to activate the tow haul tune. Is it a 12v activation?

I haven't tried it myself and have only read about it, but it sounds like a push-button switch and there is no easy indication which mode you are in. I assume you have the '02 PCM.

Yes I have the factory 02 camaro VCM. Im sure there is a way to hook up an indicator light since the factory tow/haul lights up on the dash when it is activated in the GM trucks. Can it be done with my VCM or does it only work with a truck VCM?

It's a ground activation (I believe you have to ground it for about a second) and there is some PCM tuning required as well.
