Default 2005 5.3 Silverado engine. What year trans will fit?

I have a 2005 5.3 Silverado engine that had a 4wd 4l60e behind it. I want to replace it with a 2wd 4l60e. What year transmission will interchange? And does it matter if it's from a car or a truck?
Thanks, Matt

2005 is a tough year because the ISS (Input Speed Sensor) just started to come out, some vehicles have it, but most do not. If yours has it, your replacement will need one or else your ECM/TCM will be very unhappy. If yours does not have it, then a trans with or without ISS will work fine.

So if your trans does NOT have ISS, you can use an 4L60E years '98 through '08 from an LS engine vehicle. It will/must have a bolt hole in the 12 O'clock position to indicate it has a 300mm input shaft.

If your does has ISS, then I would limit it to '06 through '08.
I'm not sure how to tell if you have ISS or not. I suspect if you have a PCM, you do not. But if you have separate ECM and TCM, then you do. An expert in this area will have to confirm that.

Car/truck makes no difference as long as it came for an LS engine.

If you only want to swap to 2WD, a trans shop can change the output shaft and perhaps freshen up the trans at the same time.

Thanks for all the information mrvedit. I'm going to check into converting this trans to to 2wd. If I can make that happen at a reasonable cost that seems like the easiest solution.

You can buy a 2wd output shaft on ebay for $45. Let me know if you need help locating one. Converting your existing trans is probably a good idea. The shop may say you need a complete rebuild, but whatever you buy may need one too.

Once again Thank you. I just sent a message to someone local on another forum who owns a Transmission shop near me. Here's his reply.

For you, 160.00 cash ... parts & labor. Includes good used 2 wl output shaft/reluctor ring/speed sensor/tail housing with new bushing & seal/Misc pump gaskets & seals required/new filter & pan gasket/turbine shaft o-ring & quick inspection of band & clutches.

I'm probably going to drop it off later today.

Sounds like an excellent deal.
I would suggest also having him install a new 7-friction 3/4 clutch, the parts for a stock 4L65E are plenty good. Since the input drum will already be out, it won't even take 15 minutes to do that and maybe $70 in parts. There are literally hundreds of threads here where the 3/4 clutch wore out.
