Default How much power can a 4l80 survive under?

With every bell and whistle how much can these transmissions really hold? I keep having problems with mine in the 1000-1200 hp range and I'm looking to turn it up more? What can be done to bulletproof these things? Or is it glide time?

I would give Rossler who built your trans a call.

I will be tomorrow, just trying to see if anyone out here is having any luck at my power level with them. I've been told I'm doing my burnouts incorrectly and shifting to high for the sprag and drum as well

Yeah at your power level it's probably more critical then mine.
How are you doing your burnouts?
I think if you leave it in D3 you "should" be ok.
At least that's what I've read.

I wasn't, I was manually shifting. I had a coan converter clutch disk come apart earlier in the year which could have caused some starvation issues as well

Yeah, that can't be good for it.
I think as long as your in D3 or lower, you have extra clutches engaged to help support the sprag.
I'm sure a guru will correct me if I'm wrong.

They can hold a LOT more than 1000-1200 if built correctly. You should be doing your burn outs in 2nd

NO!

Letting off at high rpm in 2nd gear is what is meant by doing them incorrectly. Either stay in 1st gear or make sure you shift to 3rd during the burnout.

At 1600rwhp I might consider a th400 instead of the 80e.

What does letting off at high rpm in 2nd gear hurt?

4L80E isn't a TH400, there is good reason in some cases to do burnouts in 2nd gear.

High rpm, WOT 1-2 shifts are what the TH400 and 4L80 don't like.

What rpm threshold is considered to high for a 4l80 in your opinion?

I do my burnouts in 2nd and shift to 3rd just as I release the front brake. I don't have 1000hp though.

When you put it in 2nd, does it start in 2nd or go 1st to to 2nd then you shift to 3rd?

I can put my controller in manual mode and it will start in any gear that its put in.

I really want to know the correct way to do the burnout.

I put my shifter in 2. Starts in first and then shifts to second.
