new converter an shift kit drove 30 mi now car wont move hey guys need some advice on trouble shooting a issue. 98 Camaro all bont ons just installed a new yank ss4000 converter and transgo hd2 kit from pro built automatic. I have 30 miles on it now and made it half way to work an the car lost all power to the wheels. engine runs fine but no matter what gear im in the car wont move. so I put it in neutral an got a tow home .. while going home I noticed a fast pace clicking noise from the trans ,... the repetition of the click increased as speed increased. ..
so please chime in with any ideas on trouble shooting the issue thanks

How much clearance did you have between the converter pads and the flex plate before you bolted it up?
Did you pull the transmission in by tightening the bolts to seat the bell housing in the dowls?

not positive on the clearance but I remember 3 very distinct clunks I can ask my buddy in the morning if he remembers a measurement on the clearance .. an yes I did get the trans up on the dowels with a few bolt in an sucked the whole thing in. is that the correct way to do it? thanks

I never go by the 3 clicks. When the converter is seated fully it should be about 1 ⅛ from the converter pads to the top of the bell housing.
Then when you install the transmission you never want to pull the transmission on with the bolts. You should be able to push it on to the dowls. Once it is on the dowls you should have about 3/16 in from converter pads to flex plate.
To me it sounds like the converter was not fully seated and when you pulled the tranny on you pushed the converter hub threw your transmission pump, cracking it.
Then when you install the transmission you never want to pull the transmission on with the bolts. You should be able to push it on to the dowls. Once it is on the dowls you should have about 3/16 in from converter pads to flex plate.

unfortunately the first thing I thought to do was turn it off.. while it was being towed engine was off trans in neutral I could hear a clicking noise

trans fluid level is full as well. no visual leaks under vehicle. I did happen to notice a small whine noise when I was driving the car

When the motor is not running, then the pump is also not running. But with the driveshaft still turning.....so are the drums inside the transmission. With no fluid being pumped, this makes quick work of a transmission. Namely clutches.... and possibly the geartrain as well..

if I did not have my converter in all the way would I have been able to drive it? like I said I have 30 miles on it an several times were wot when I was getting it tuned

Okay guys I have an update I started the car today put it in reverse and the car moved backwards reversing very responsive I put it in Drive that seem very responsive as well I let the car sit in engine running Transmission in park for 2 minutes I heard a loud noise in the transmission and now there are no response from any gears do you guys have any ideas here

Possibly the filter is plugging with crap and cavitating pump. When you shut it off the crap falls off the filter and will let fluid flow through again until it plugs up again.

Take it to a transmission shop and let them troubleshoot the problem. You can decide what to do once you know what the problem is. Else, pull the pan and see whats inside, but that probably won't reveal the extent of the problem.

If it is the filter plugging the tranny is going to need rebuilt anyways because it's clutch material plugging it. But if it's Ben sitting a little bit and you fire it up and she has gears for a minut maybe 2 then loose them again you'll know for sure. The bad part is that new converter will need cut and cleaned along with flushing the crap out of the coolers and lines. When ever I have trans problem I buy a new auxiliary cooler for peace of mind.
