Default 4L60E transmission works in reverse and manual gears only

I have a 1996 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 that works only in reverse and manual gears only. Any other drive gears ,the vehicle does not move. What's the problem?

Broken/Wadded-Up Forward Sprag. Though technically it should move forward in D1 & D2.

I'll add when I've taken out the forward sprag (a couple times) to limp through until repairs were made or another tranny sourced. To get all gears in a somewhat auto style you have to manualy pull it down to first gear then after you feel it engage you can push it up to d1 d2. Once the computer commands a downshift though youll loose gear again and have manually shift. Definitely time for repairs though

Yes, in all forward gears the forward clutches are applied and forward sprag assembly are holding. So technically I should have some forward movement in automatic drive. Could it be a computer issue?

It could be a broken low roller clutch. These don’t brake often, must of the time it is the forward sprag, but I have seen a few of them broken. I don’t think it is electrical, the low roller clutch is the only thing that holds first gear in drive. In manual low, the low/reverse clutches and low roller clutch are applied.

The low/reverse roller clutch will be something to check out because a bad roller clutch can make first gear slips. Thanks for the infor.
