So what are you going to do?
A 60E or stick it out with the 80E?

REDSS, What diameter was the 400's converter and what was the 80's?
Did you try to have the 80's re stalled?
I don't remember what the diameter was , just remember that the TH400 was a Yank 3600 as is the new 80 stall. (9.5 I believe )
Seems much tighter and it's supposed to be the same just an application for the different Trans .
I have not had it restalled , that maybe in the future. I'm losing interest in the car quickly (too many other projects)

TH400. Then gives me a reason to turbo and get a taller gear for street use.

It does get played out.
But if you do want maximum ET and drive around town, a 2 or 3 speed is probably the way to go.
I guess you could have lower numerically gears and boost and be ok too.

I believe the Powerglide and TH400 are both 1:1 in high, 400 has an extra low gear (248:1)vs. the glide's 1.80:1 or 1.76:1

This is strange t o say the least.
A friend of mine swapped from a 60e and 4000converter to an 80e with a 4000 converter and picked up 3 tenths in the 1/4 after his shift points were tuned in.

Were the 60's the same?
I'm curious going from a 3.0 1st to a 2.48 1st

So far this has boiled down to one thing. No two cars are going to like the same drive line in most cases. I just don't want to spend 1200 and be disappointed my converter was still not right. Wasting time.

Triple disc converter was mentioned... I take it you're unlocking it during each shift...?

Bumping this back up.

TH400 in to the car was a massive gain on motor. 1.68 60 foot times with a 500$ revmax converter and 1.72 with the 1200$ curcle D converter.

swapped to the TH400 and 1.58 60 foot on motor. ET was a 4 or 5 MPH gain as well. But, I’ll note I also went to a 8” 5000 converter from the 10” 4L80. I did try a 4200 10” billet converter but swapped the car from carb to EFI, so don’t have a report of a true back to back on that.

Quick Reply: Bad 60 foot and poor ET with a 80 compared to Th400
