Default Tranny issues 99 WS6 turbo

Just did turbo build this summer and now tranny going out . The tranny was rebuilt about 6000 miles ago from local shop supposedly strong enough for 700 hp. It is a auto 4 . Any ideas on to rebuild it stronger or change tranny some other 4l80 think it's 4l60 now . Thanks

If over 500rwhp I would go with a 4L80E trans.

Just a question on this subject- Many tranny builders claim to be able to build a 4L60-E trans to handle 600-700HP, depending on the builder. CAN it happen? Or is the basic design too weak to handle the above power levels?

First let start by saying that I am not a professional trans builder, but I build all of my own transmissions and a few others every now and then. This is just my opinion. Yes a 4L60E can be built to handle that power level but it is at the ragged edge. So the question is how long it will last and that will depend on how hard you beat on it. Think of it this way a stock engine lasting 200k to 300k miles is normal, start adding 200, 300, 500hp and so on to it and no one will except it to last as long as if it was left stock. The 4L80E is designed to handle more power form the start. So you are starting with a stronger transmission to begin with, so it is not at the ragged edge at the 600-700HP level.

Right now I'm at 500 rwhp on low boost but may have plans to go from 9lbs boost to 12 to that would bring it up closer to 600 rwhp. So looks like the better choice is 4l80e this tranny will work with my pcm?

Yes your PCM can be tuned to work with a 4L80E.

it can, and has been done. But IMO it's not wise to dump money into one, I'd get rid Of it and do either a 80....or the tried and true 400.

We do offer this http://performabuilt.com/level-3.html and if that is still not enough we offer this http://performabuilt.com/blackedition.html something to consider comes with a 1 year warranty on either or if you purchase a converter "FTI" through us it jumps to a 2 year warranty or optionally you can purchase the additional warranty separately. We have been doing the Black edition for several year now to date no one even at 1000 hp in 4000 plus pound cars and trucks has broken one . Just something to consider.
