Default 4l60 plow truck, not happy. Codes inside

P0740, P0785,P1860

P7040- torque converter clutch solenoid
P0785- Shift timing Solenoid
P1850- TCC solenoid as well

Bought this heap to plow the yard not running. Put a battery in it and it fired right up. Seems like there is no first gear ( taking off in second or third? ) and its pulling those codes. Its cold as heck outside today and I cant presently pull it in the shop so what is wrong with this thing by your guess? Is it fubar, or easy fix? If its fubar Im going to yank the engine and scrap it. Its low mile and runs mint but I have no idea the history and dont want to spend much coin on it so I thought I'd see what the auto experts have to say on these codes for starters

Check for 12vdc at pin E of the trans connector.

You didn't give a year/make/model of the truck......But, The fuse for trans power is generally in the I/P fuse block & is also on a different "leg" of the ignition switch, Certain year models ignition switch malfunction & interrupt power to the trans fuse while the rest of the powertrain will still have power.

Its a 99

I'll check the pin voltage tomorrow. When you mean different leg you mean a fuse labelled ign but its also powering the trans or? The ign switch is awful sloppy...

Oh...good, GM made GMT400 & GMT800 trucks in 1999. Which platform is it? What engine?

IGN 0 fuse in the I/P fuse box at the left end of the dashboard powers the transmission.

I didnt get a chance to check the trans plug today, but I did test the fuse which is ok. If the pin E shows voltage at that stage I assume im dropping pan and checking solenoids or something to that effect?

Lots of codes often results from no power to pin E due to the trans harness not even plugged in, blown fuse, torn harness, etc.
Make sure the trans harness snaps firmly into the connector on the trans.
So far this sounds like something "obvious" that should not require removing the trans.

Voltage verified at pin E. In fact someone had spliced in a second feed to an ign fuse under the hood I didnt notice before pulling the plug. I futzed around with a few plow related things and road tested it and its the same. Seems as if its taking off in second or third gear however if I drag the shifter down into 1 manually? It lights right up. Seeing as my concern is for plowing the yard I am pleased that with the manual section method I can at least do that task.

I would like to repair it properly though so once it gets pulled into the shop for real service what do I do next?

Next step is to drop the pan and check out the internal wiring harness.
Verify that you have +12V (with ignition on, engine off of course) at one of the connections of each solenoid.
BTW - The trans is in "limp mode" and starting in 3rd gear unless you manually force it into 1st.

Will do. Seeing as I have time to plan forward, If voltage is present at each solenoid whats the next move?
