4L60E - Drive Shaft Turns In Park
Hello,
I'd like somebody to confirm my theory that I have a broken parking pawl inside the 4L60E transmission I have dropped into my 1970 El Camino. With a drive shaft inserted, I can turn it in either direction no matter where I place my Lokar shifter attached to the trans. My only hope is that my transmission will behave better once I get the engine running maybe next month.
What am I up against here? Many thanks.
Rick

Hello,
And thanks for the response. I have the Lokar shifter kit but only the selector shaft lever is currently installed. With the lever, I can go from Park all the way to the Low selections and nothing seems to make any difference. I can feel every notch for selections.
Really appreciate the response and maybe its not broken. Fingers crossed and it had to be broken before I got it.

You can remove the trans pan and verify that the parking rod is hooked to the rooster cone and that the two bolts that hold the parking paw retainer haven't backed out. With the selector in park the driveshaft should not turn.
