Default In the market for a 1000+ hp th400. Who to contact?

Which company should I contact about this? if like to be able to buy everything for the swap from M6 from them if possible.

I know RPM is a big name but FTI is as well. I know nothing about autos so just basically looking for a company to get a good trans from with everything I need.

Thanks

1000hp th400 isn't a huge deal nowadays. Any of those you listed, along with jakes transmission, CK, etc

Proper valve body/hydraulic circuit mods, billet input, 34 element sprag, forged/billet forward hub (rollerized), rollerize output. Those are the basic upgrades you need. The rest of the mods, like aluminum apply pistons, stiffer piston return springs, etc is just attention to detail that every build should get, regardless of HP

Thank you for the reply. I am new to autos so I'm having to learn all of this as I go.

Hello I sent you guys an email but we can talk on here if it is easier. I need a th400 for an eventual 1100 hp turbo f body. I am doing a swap from an M6 so I am going to need everything. Do you guys sell everything or just trans and converter? Also what first gear ratio do I need for my set up? It has a 3.42 rear in it.

I think i remember your email. I sent a list of everything we can provide last night. For the first gear ratio we only offer our TH400s with the 2.48 low gear ratio, and unless you are making some serious big power with a small power window then the close ratio TH400 stuff isnt necessary. Shoot me PM here or respond to my email and we'll get the package together for you! The only thing you'll need that we dont supply will be the shifter and shifter mounts.-Dalton

Thank you. I replied to your email with some questions. Disregard the gear ratio question.

A very well known trans builder is local to me and I was going to work out a sponsorship deal with them, but there was more than a few things they didn't like about my setup and were skittish lol.

So a local guy has an FTI Stage 4 for sale that I'm thinking about picking up in 2 weeks if he still has it. Its still brand new so I think I'll give it a shot. Their stuff seems to be good bang/buck.

I'm talking with Dalton and FTI now about what I need. When he emails me back with some specifics I'm going to place an order with him.

FTI transmission are always in stock or takes only few days... i have there 900hp level 4... you would require the level 4.5 which is rated 1100hp and has the billet input shaft.

Since FTI is in on this thread I'll just ask here.

Is your LVL4 rated at 900 HP using the factory input shaft and drum and just has the upgraded billet fwd clutch hub? Just wanted to make sure I'm reading that correctly.

Dalton said I would need the stage 5 because they rate their power at the flywheel.

That makes much more sense. 900 flywheel is about 720-760 at the tire. Usually when I build one, I say input shaft is ok to 750 non-transbrake with a turbo, 700 non-transbrake with nitrous, and 650 for anything transbrake.
Some shafts will live past that power level, but as the builder, I don't want to see it fail at that power level and lose a race, hurt other parts of the trans, over-rev the motor and hurt it, or worst of all, have the driver get hurt somehow.

Our level 4 uses the factory input shaft and input drum. We upgrade the clutch hub to one of our billet steel hubs, we use the 4L80E drum with a 34 element sprague, we add our billet transbrake valve body, and we switch to a 4 clutch intermediate with red race frictions through out.

Yep, makes perfect sense. Pretty standard stuff, I was just very shocked to see you rated that setup at 900hp. When he said that's flywheel hp, it made perfect sense. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Next week I am picking up a level 4 that I bought locally.
With a turbo 4.8 in a 2500 lb vehicle at 800-1000 horsepower, can I expect this transmission to hold up for a reasonable amount of time?
The stock TH400 in the car has been doing OK, but it hasn't ever wanted to shift under power so I end up riding the limiter for an excessive amount of time and its starting to go out of me.

Its not a drag vehicle and will only see a few passes a year.

I highly recommend RPM transmissions. I've used them for 10+ years and they have always steered me in the most cost effective direction. Make sure you speak with Jeremy. He's extremely knowledgeable and will take great care of you.

lighter car with less low end torque and turbo car, you should be perfectly fine with our level 4!

Great choice with FTI.

Although I didn't go with a TH400, they were awesome to work with and willing to answer any questions I had. I was lucky enough to tour their shop before placing my order and was impressed by the whole setup. They actually talked me out of a much more expensive setup that I was initially going to purchase which would have been the wrong choice for my car.

I will definitely do business with them again in the future, and personally I consider repeat customers the biggest praise you can give a company .
