Flex plate bolt/ torque hey there everyone! I picked an engine up and the guy I grabbed it off had replaced the flex plate bolts with some off the shelf hardware variety. Issue is they were too long, after he torqued them the flexplate still had play. I got the engine for a steal so I went to remove the flextplate issue being the engine wouldn’t turn when I attempted to turn the balancer. After I removed the flex plate bolts the engine spun fine. What do you think caused the bind? Improper torque? Or could the bolts being too long have actually pushed on the internals causing the bind? |
I've never seen 11mm bolts at a hardware store so I'd have to assume you're talking about a Gen 1 or 2 small block or something. What is it? An LS engine won't bind with a bolt thats too long. An old small block will. |
I asked him again. I guess he used the bolts that came with a spacer, its an LM7 and a transmission from a Pontiac with an LS1 he used the Bolts and didn’t use the spacer |
