Dropped the valve body and now vehicle won't move
 

So before I go digging into the transmission again, I wanted to ask a couple questions. I've been driving my Jeep with a 1999 5.3 LS engine and a 2002 4L60E for about 1000 miles. It's mostly been fine but I've been troubleshooting a hard 1-2 shift and tried changing a few things without much luck. Finally gave up and went to change the TCC valve. I tried to do the trick without dropping the valve body but after 2 hours, I gave up and dropped the valve body making a huge mess. I also decided while everything was empty, I'd toss in a trans cooler.

So I replaced the TCC valve and filled the transmission and now I have no forward or reverse gears. I added roughly what I took out and got nothing so I continued to add another 3 quarts before I decided that was more than enough and something else is wrong. When I shift into reverse or drive, the engine rpms drop like it normally would but it doesn't move. If I jack up the rear of the vehicle, the rear wheels will spin in every gear except park...including neutral. The really odd thing is they will spin in reverse in all gears one time and then they will spin forward in all gears the next time. I can stop the tires with my hands though.

Any idea what I messed up during assembly?

If you don't have a scan tool, I would drop pan and check that the manual valve link is hooked up.

Yep...the tab that holds the bar onto the manual valve must've broken when I installed it and the link was just hanging there. I appreciate the help. I guess the sucky part is I'll have to order that part and drop the valve body again just to change that stupid thing.

I'd put money on nothing being broken.

Well there's a bit more to the story... I broke that lip earlier trying to get it in place with pliers. I welded it back on to prevent a week of downtime while a new one came in. I thought my weld was stout and was going to hold up especially considering that lip isn't really loaded but somehow it broke anyway. That's also why I didn't mention it since I was confident it was good. The second picture, I put the link back on for reference. Guess I'm ordering a new one anyway.

I doubt you broke it. I'd bet you just missed the hole or forgot about it when you went to install it.

Takes alot to break anything in the linkage inside the trans.

To prevent having to wait another week for a new valve, I welded the tab back on since it's really just a retaining tab and shouldn't see any load. I was confident with the weld but I guess it just didn't hold up.
