TCI brake will do the job. It's around $425.

Tough to say, but since the entire transmission has to be pulled down... probably quite a bit. If you have any kind of mechanical ability, you can do it yourself and save a bunch. It's really not that hard.

For only a $100 more you can get a billet FTI one...

Being that op is on a budget, why would he pay $100 more for a transbrake that does the exact same thing as the TCI? I doubt there will be a time when he wishes he had a billet transbrake.

If you buy the TCI brake, it comes with step by step instructions.

I've never had a single TCI Valve body come through my shop that I actually liked.

The Hipster brake from auto trans design will be your best bang for the buck. Quick release, fairly inexpensive, trouble free, great service if you need it.

What was wrong with those tci valvebodies to where you didn't like them? Imo, as long as you use all of the direct drum springs they provide you with, there should be no drag....as long as the clutch clearance is right. Only played with mine, but feels like it releases instantly .

From what I've seen come through my shop, they are not of high quality. I've seen decent sized internal leaks, and rough finish work.

Also, I don't like the circuitry of their VB compared to others. Others have faster and more consistent release times...and are less prone to issues.
Just what I've seen personally.

If you're going with a billet brake, the FTI, Jakes, etc will all be good units.

Our billet 400 transbrake is $475.

The TCI valve body is a very old design rhsf most modern designs have far better circuitry.

OP, I will say this... and leave it alone. I have zero issues killing clutches, the brake releases quick enough for people like you and I. And it's the cheapest....choice is yours. I'm uncontaminated, not trying to sell anything here . There ain't but so many ways you can direct fluid in a 400.

Not bad at all. What is your pricing on a TH400 RMVB with transbrake that will hold 1200-1300 HP? Application would be a twin turbo iron 388 in a heavy 3800 lb car. How would it perform from a dig without launching off the transbrake on the street with say 3.0 gears and 28" tall tires? I figure those gears and that tire would put me at about 2600 rpms on the highway at 70mph but my concern is how slow it would be out of the hole on the street with those gears. Would you suggest such a TH400 setup or would you suggest a glide with gear vendors? I'd be lowering boost on the street such that it was around 800 peak so that it wouldn't just burn through the rubber. Basically when customers come to you at that power level and want to have it be fun on the street without spinning the rpms pas 3000+ on the highway, what setup do you recommend? Need to know trans type, axle gears, converter stall speed, trans gear ratio...point me in the right direction because right now I'm lost.

There's a huge amount of room for improvement, especially when dealing with a clean sheet design instead of using the original valve body.
Even using original core VBs there are many important design criteria that

can be improved over the TCI piece.
