Default 4l80 converter drag staging

I've searched everywhere and cant seem to find any ideas 4l80 i built with jakes d1 brake, Circle D 245 single disk 4000. problem is when I stage and try to get on 2 step with or without brake, rpm will climb them suddenly drop like tcc is trying to lock. It doesn't do it every time I've been able to get it to stage a few times. I am in the process of building a new trans for it with a couple changes such as sonnax pr valve instead of drilling the hole and o-ring all end caps but what could be causing this? return flow looks excellent from cooler at trans. possibly restricted beyond that? I did pull pan oil looked to be clean. pressure is great 60 idle 205 wot 300 reverse. I tried lowering pressure that didn't help. I'm really leaning towards low converter feed. what should I look for or how to avoid this in the next trans? I have not pulled the old trans out yet but I've read adding the sonnax pr valve with the .060 line to converter feed is not a good idea could it hurt to try it?

If you have the hole drilled in pump that's all you need. The sonnax line to lube valve won't do anything more than what the hole drilled in the pump does.

If the TCC was trying to lock, it would either bog the motor or destroy the clutch lining. The fluid would look pretty crappy.

What are some other details on the setup...engine, computer, tuning, etc

It’s the TJ in my Sig Lq4 stroked to 415 red blue ecm tuned with efi live custom os 5 used for nitrous tuning I’ve done all of my own tuning. that’s exactly what I get is a bog I’ll work the rpm up slowly it’ll get to about 2800 rpm and just suddenly bog down

What's your current staging procedure?
What's rpm does the converter go to when you do get it to stage correctly?

Stop completely, shift to first, push button, let off brake, gas pedal down slowly. 2 step is set at 3200 that’s where it stages at when it works

It did something similar to this before I installed the brake so I don’t believe it’s in the trans brake setup just showed up better. I used to foot brake and 1 out of 5 runs it would just fall on its face launching

Have you spoken with the converter company?
Have you logged to watch any abnormal trans activity?

I have done a bunch of logging no converter problems showing there just talked to circle d super great customer service very knowledgeable staff he’s thinking the same thing I am either send it out and get it checked out or try it in the new one. one way or another I’ll know if it’s the converter and since I’m racing in a week I’m going to try it should know more when I tear it down

Maybe it's just the picture...but that oil looks brown and the stator tube bushing looks wiped out bigtime.

Like I said...maybe just the picture

your right and it looks to be a grounding issue as well a picture goes a long ways. that was a new bushing year and a half ago. I run hydraulic oil and some atf
its usually a bit darker but there is definitely some clutch material in the pan not much but enough

I would replace the bushing...and find your ground issue. If you fix both of those and dont mind spending time doing something twice...then install trans and see if it's corrected.

If it's not...then I would send the converter off to the manufacturer

Ordered a different converter while the other one is on its way back lockup is 600 rpm lower cruising which leads me to believe it’s never been right since day one
