Best Trans Temp Gauge..... Who makes the best trans temp Gauge? I want to install one in my 1997 Chevy 2500 pickup. Its a factory 454/4L80E truck. I bought the truck to have me a tow rig when NEEDED. BY my camaro being a 6 speed car i dont know much about what trans temp gauge yall guys are using. Here is a pic.... https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...9415adaf61.jpg |
It's a trans temp gauge...don't overthink it. Pick one you like the face on, and the price on and buy it. Put it in the pan if you want to see general trans temp. The cooler return line will show you what temp is coming back from the cooler and getting used as lube oil. cooler out line will show hotter because that's fluid straight out of the converter before it's cooled. Usually only ever put a gauge here if you're going to be on the transbrake for ages and want to make sure you don't boil/cook fluid. |
I have a jegs digital and it reads about 30° cooler than actual so not all gauges are the same. It doesn't matter if its in pan or line, read the same. If I had to do again, I wouldn't go electric sender,I'd do mechanical gauge |

How do you know it reads 30 degrees off? Go with a digital gauge. I run a glow shift trans temp gauge with the sender in my pan. https://www.glowshiftdirect.com/10-c...erature-gauge/ https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...8a170e3399.jpg And my car is maroon! Great minds my man |

[QUOTE=It doesn't matter if its in pan or line, read the same. [/QUOTE] If the ATF temperature coming out of the transmission is the same as the ATF going back into the transmission... You definitely need more cooling (bigger cooler or multiple coolers in series). |
Anybody know the differece in between towing a car on a 18ft vs nothing being towed on the 4L80E tranmission ? By the way it gets hot here in Mississippi. Very Humid at times. |

The one I posted will work perfect. It is 61 degrees outside right now. This is what mine reads in my garage right now. Digital absolutely is accurate. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...912f316e6e.jpg |
You can not go wrong with AutoMeter... So many choices of styles to choose from. Those blue digital gauges, that you guys have look Amazing! But I am partial to Blue. Check these gauges out! AutoMeter Cobalt Blue gauge series: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...ffd714f6a6.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...914d32d30c.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...048dee0f06.jpg |
Yup, pick any flavor of auto meter or a digital glow shift if you'd like. I have a phantom series trans temp in my car, works like it should. As far as temps while towing, still don't want to get it much over 2-220* especially for extended amounts of time. If you're constantly hovering around there it's time to upgrade the cooling capability of your trans. |
Thanks for the insight. I really appreciated. |
