Custom trans mount fab Q's
 

I guess this would be the right place for this. I did a search but couldn't find anything quite like I was looking for.

I'm swapping an LQ4/4L80E combo into my '89 S10. For a transmission mount I'm using a Stiffler's tubular
trans mount from an SN95 Mustang. Since it it's as wide as the frame, I made brackets (that I welded to the frame)
for it to bolt to. It's just heavily tacked in at the moment.

I made the brackets like 2 years ago, and have been thinking of revising the design.

They are currently made of 1/4" steel, which is probably a) overkill and b) heavy.

So, I've been considering revising the design, drawing it up in Sketchup or other CAD type program and having
new ones water jetted or laser cut. I'm thinking 1/8" might be a more appropriate thickness for what I'm doing.

The eventual goal is 350-400 RWHP. No turbo, no transbrake, nothing crazy. It is going to be a cruiser/nice weather daily
with a couple of trips to the track a year, maybe.

Anyway, think 1/8" plate will be acceptable? Or should I go thicker?

How about
A. a picture of how you have them currently
B. A design you have in cad just so we can see.

If you're using 3"x3" of 1/4 plate on either side of the frame...is it really going to be heavy? Seems like no biggie
On the other hand...I doubt the frame on that s10 is any heavier than 1/8" So the thinner plate is probably just fine

I haven't designed them in Cad yet.

This is basically how I have them set up now (Except they're welded to the frame and I put a piece on top to connect the 2 sides.
My welder is a 135, and doesn't really like the 1/4" steel. That was the only photo I had handy.

If you have a piece on top connecting the two sides...and that piece is welded to the frame...that will be PLENTY strong out of 1/8"
