Default Replacing 3/4 clutch pack question

Hello,

Other thread died a little. Lost 3rd and 4th and decided I'm handling this myself. I am putting in the sonnax performance pack, 3/4 shift valve, rebuilding servo, i6 TrailBlazer stall ($37 bucks from the junkyard and didn't even have to pull the trans), transgo separator plate, new gaskets on the vb work, new solenoids, 2/4 band, sunshell, obviously new clutch pack, deep truck pan, and trans cooler. Might be missing something also idk anymore. This all got more indepth than originally planned. Anyway while I have it out is there a gasket/seal kit that's recommended while I am this deep in the trans? I hate 4l60e's so if I can preserve this thing a little longer so next time it's dropped it's for a 80e or a t56 I'd appreciate the heads up.

I'm not aware of any additive that should be added; probably even a bad idea.
Assuming you are buying a rebuild kit, buy a 4L65E kit as that will come with 7 frictions for the 3/4 clutch. As my info/links are now too old, hopefully someone else can guide you to a source of a better 3/4 clutch kit if you so desire.

Good to see your name pop up. I've seen a whole lot of you in my Google searches and a lot of people mentioning you in others. Nope I messed up and jumped once I decided to do the clutches and then a few hours later of reading and thinking put me in the search for seals/gaskets. Would have been better off ordering a whole kit.

About the only additive I have ever used was LUBEGUARD but no idea if it does much, Now Lube Guard shudder fix does work when someone's used wrong fluid and has converter chatter/shudder..
Just had a guy call me last week I didn't build his trans but he had a 46RE he put dexron 3 in and it worked great except he said it vibrated when in 4th , Talking it was actually lockup we determined, told him to get that and try it out in two bottles. He did and call me back week later said all fixed smooth as can be.

Just throwing in a few new parts and a junk yard converter may be the reason your 4L60e's don't last long or work very well. Just saying.

Thanks for asking.
My wife had been in the hospital for 16 days and a few days the week before that. I just got her home Wednesday evening. She is recovering well. I am now trying to get caught up around the house and out in the shop.

From experience, adding any and mostly all additives in regards to an automatic transmission is just a bandaid to a larger problem. To be very honest most are either useless and do not present any noticeable change to any aspect or more harmful than good. Your ATF has all the additives and detergents you would ever want in an auto. The 4L60E in my professional opinion operates best on DEX 3 that's of good quality. Your 3rd clutch issue is a common problem and a large circuit with some pieces most would think unrelated to the actual circuit. It's not so much about the parts you put into this particular clutch pack but more about fluid control and timing. Just some helpful tips - Make sure your apply plates are actually flat, address any leaks if not all of the release capsules in the drum and servo bore ( can be done with a simple aircheck if you don't have vacuum test equipment), address and replace the Reverse Abuse Bore Plug in the valve body ( many are not aware that indeed affects the 3rd clutch in more ways than not), Check for input drum leaks around the shaft by aircheck through the feed holes, Clearances Clearances Clearances! ( Do your best to minimize the 3rd clutch and band clearance from Gm's specs but leave your band about .010 -.020 less than your 3rd clutch), and finally if you have access to HP tuners or know someone - Copy the performance driving table to the normal table in upshifts as stock PCMs draw back pressures that will affect more aggressive throttle in 3rd which is attributed to many 3rd packs burnt up under more aggressive driving because of General Motors stock pcm values in that normal table conflicting with harder acceleration under different conditions. Granted this is to help with some simple repairs and make your stock unit just that little bit better. I hope this helps!

Yep. just had mine rebuilt and mated to an LQ9 6.0... she shifts like butter....
trans go HD shift kit w Seperator plate, Trans go boost valve, upgraded low reverse sprag, upgraded input drum w sonnax sleeve and 29 element sprag, Beast Sun shell w new gear, Vette servo, Alto stage II clutches, steels and bands, all aluminum accumulator pistons and finally a Circle D 3200 converter...

Mine is a DD so should last quite sometime...
