Jake's 4L80e D3 Hello all, new here. I have a Jakes's transmission with D3 brake. Been searching for sometime and don't see what I'm looking for. Anyone know how much current the transbrake circuit draws? Thanks |
Less than 2.5 amps for the standard D3 D3 pro uses a larger solenoid that pulls less than 5 Either way, protect the circuit with a fuse. Use a solid state relay if you plan to bump I never recommend an ECU trigger be sent directly to a transbrake solenoid. If using an ECU output, always use a relay |
Great, I thank you. Was wanting to be sure I used the correct size fuse. If over-fused wouldn't help in a melt-down/current over-draw. I've read on some forums where some trans brakes pull in excess of 10 amp which I thought was a lot for pulling in a solenoid. By the way, I'm using an MSD solid state relay pack. I don't plan to bump at all. I'm going for an old-school approach, backup brake light circuit (through a relay) to provide reverse during backing up and then a parallel button activation switch for staging/launch. Still on a search for a well designed safety lock-out diagram as this is a street/strip car but worst case, I could use a mechanical spring-loaded switch cover to keep fiddly fingers off the activation button. Again, thanks for the reply. |

I am running a Sniper Xflow but frankly I may not be keeping it much longer. I'm having a lot of reliability issues with it and seriously considering going back to carb setup. I like the microswitches idea. I've got a B&M Quicksilver, I may be able to tie something into the existing switches or possibly add something. Great suggestions...thanks very much! |
