which tci converter will go well with my 373 gears i have 373 gears and i dont like the way it has no downshift when i floor my car, so iam thinking a stall would help my car, iam wondering which tci converter will go well with my car? my car is a daily driver, so far i have slp exhaust, slp y pipe, sld lid, ram air, my motor is stock, i plan to get a cam in the future, which converter will go well with my setup? the 3000 street fighter? or the 3500 super street? also would i have to delete the torque management with these converters? |
3500-3800 with a STR under 2.2 |
The downshift (lack of) is just PCM stupidity and easily fixed if you can find a buddy with the right make/year of HPTuners. The TCI SF has the lowest STR in their stock offerings and might be good for you. With those gears a high STR is just an excuse to buy new tires often. You might like more RPM than the 3000 though I like it fine for my stock cam setup. You will learn just how bad TM sucks once you put in a converter that actually lets you make torque on the shifts. Another reason to seek out tuning, but tuning might also make the stock converter (more) tolerable if you got proper part-throttle and WOT shift points dialed in. |
you are in downers grove, take it to speed inc and have Jim tune it for you. he will delete TM as well as adjust shift points |
i have a 3000 in my truck and i know someone who has one in his z28 and he wishes he had a 3500 in fact he is going to upgrade as soon as he can so i would say a 3500 although i am very happy with my 3000 in my truck hope this helps |

how much would a tune like that cost? |
Most people who get a 3000 want to go bigger later. I started with the vig 2800, later modded the motor and went up to a 3800 and should have done that to begin with, driveabilty isnt a lot different to me. I would go with the 3500 or bigger especially if you are going to cam the car later it will probably save you the money of going bigger again with the converter. If you go over 3000 the computer will think that the tranny is slipping, you will need a tune. I paid 500 for my tune but it is on going, if I have problems I can take it back and get it taken care of. And don't forget to install a tranny cooler. |

Stock flexplates will crack, and that will turn the TC eliptical, which in turn will mess up your front pump. SteveC :) |
I say get at least a 3500. I have a TCI 3800 and can't imagine having anything less ;) As far as the tuning, yeah, it's a pain. Still don't have mine right. The best thing I did, though, was delete TM. |

whats torque management? what does it do? should i remove it? iam using the stock converter, iam planing on bringing my car to finish line performance so the can hook up the LS1 edit to my car and so they can control the downshifts on my car so i can get back my 2nd gear downshift when iam crusing at different speeds, hopefully this will work |
