What trans. is in the V6 cars? 4L60E same as V8 cars?

it IS a 4L60e, but it has a different bolt pattern than the V-8

Some of them have removeable bellhousings, so it's possible to swap bellhousings. My '98 v6 tranny and '98 v8 tranny both have removeable bellhousings.

But... the v6 4l60e has less clutch discs in the clutch pack.

If you're going to rebuild one though, the case, gears, valvebody, etc are all the same. Then you could just upgrade the clutch pack
