Default Will this hurt my tranny?

I will start running my truck before long and was wondering on an issue. It's a 4l60e. My question is, When I do my burnout I thought maby I could pull donw into 1st then let the rpm get up then shift into 2. What you guys think? If not what is the best way for a burn out without f***ing up the tranny. ( daily driver ) thanx.

From what I remember, that is what some people do and have had good luck with it, while other people say to just leave it in 2 and do the burnout, while other say just leave it in 3rd or 4th and do it. Some have said your method is not good for the tranny.....

I just put it in 3rd and go from there

Thumbs up

Leave it in overdrive. The 4l60E has the highest line pressure in overdrive. Plus pulling it down to first uses the overrun clutches, there are only 2 clutches engaged when in manual 1. If you leave in in overdrive you have 5 clutches engaged vs two.

i was wonderin the same thing! not to jack your thread or anything but, i was wonderin kinda the same thing about kickdowns when your drivin?!? is it better to leave it in OD and just get on it and let it kickdown its self, or would it be better to to it manually? just wanting to clearify for myself and others. which way will hurt the tranny less? thanks alot

and to answer your question, it depends on what kinda burnout you are doing! if it is for fun and you want to do donuts and what not then i would put it into 1st manually and then bump it up. and maybe the same on the track if you cant the the tires sticky enough leavin it in OD, but i dont know which way is better for the tranny?!? lol

My friend is a mechanic and he does tranies he always tells me to drop it down to do the burnout. He said its harder on the tranny to do it in D.

I leave mine in D, just don't bring the RPMs up too high. I keep mine below 2000.

This is a interesting question, hopefully some of the vendors will add their opinion.
