Default Will a 700r4 work with an LS1 if I use a LS1 torque converter

Heres the deal . Im gonna be swapping a LS1 into 3rd gen and I have a mucho $$$$$ in 700r4 with a manual valvebody that I would like to retain with the LS1 . Will the 700r4 bolt up to the LS1 with a LS1 converter ? Also , do the A4 LS1's use the same VSS as a a4 LT1 ? MY 700r4 already has a speed sensor for a 94-97 LT1 in it as I used it in my 95 trans am .

i'm not sure that the input shaft of the 700r4 is the same as the ls1 4l60e.

your also going to need a bell off an ls1 4l60e for an f-body...

you will also need to remove all the codes in the computer... this is going to give you shift and tc lockup problems

the speed sensor on the ls1 4l60e is on the rear of the trans and uses the output shaft... 2 wire plug... i have heard it's not the same as a 95 lt1 f-body but that might have changed with obd2 in 96

how much power is the car going to be putting down? why not use a stock trans for the change over and built it up when it goes south.

sell your 700r4 and use that moeny plus save some for the 4l60e rebuilt... can you rebuild yourself? you could save alot of money.

Nope. Besides the differences in "thickness" of the LSx/Gen-III torque converters versus Gen-I and II SBC, the current ones are 33-spline. All the Gen-I and Gen-II smallblock versions are 30-spline.

If you need a converter to retro-fit the ls1 to the 700r4, we can certainly make that happen for you. If you are interested, check out our group purchase going on now on this site. Also, feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

So you use a 700R4 converter?

All 4L60E's use 30 spline input shafts, be it LT1 or LS1. The LS1 shaft it self is different in length (longer) and where the O-ring for torque converter lockup goes. If you are going to use the earlier design torque converter, & do not have the Trans-Go Shift kit installed, then use the 1995 & later torque converter which has the late design lockup clutch to work with the PWM. When using the Trans-Go Shift kit, it eliminates the PWM and you can use the earlier design torque converter.

My apologies for digging up this old thread.

If anything though it proves that I have searched first before asking a question, so I am not a noob to forum "rules". This quote sent me for a whirl because I am getting conflicting information.

Here's what I have to work with:

2000 5.3L Tahoe V8, trying to mate it to a 1993 4wd 4L60E non-PWM transmission. First of all, will this work, trying to mate the 5.3L to the '93 4L60E with flywheel spacer part number "12563532" and ARP bolts "ARP-330-2802"? Next, will the '00 Tahoe PCM still be able to control this older style non-PWM pump? By the way I have not purchased a torque converter yet, so I'm not sure which one to use? 298mm older style or 300mm newer LSx style converter? This V8/trans combo is going into my lifted truck so no need for any converter other than OE replacement but preferably heavy duty or something with a rock bottom low stall speed for early lockup on highway.

I have tried sifting through bs threads and have found more conflicting information than supporting info, so this is why I ask. What would be great is if someone could post up with their build very similar or exact to what I'm doing.

Sorry again for digging up this fossil, but I've gotta get these questions ironed out otherwise the trans is worthless to me and I've already put a full rebuild kit and extra goodies into the rebuild of the 60E.

Can't wait for the new Bond movie to come out. Looks like it's gonna be a good one.

Bump for the night.

A 1993 should not be a 4L60E. Does it have a big round electrical plug on top of the pan rail on the passenger side?

Yes it does, and in 1993 that's when the first 4L60E's started coming out. I've rebuilt this thing from top to bottom with two different manuals and an additional rebuilding DVD to follow along with. It's a 60E no doubt.

Would you rather I start a new thread? I'll wait as long as it takes to get this information because I've spent nights searching for it without success. It seems as if everyone who does the LS1/700R4/TH350/TH400 swap uses a PWM type pump, which I don't have.
