What exactly does a stall do?

I searched and looked and couldnt find a good detailed answer. Anyone?

If you mean a stall in a torque converter, this might help you out: http://fuddleracing.com/wst_page3.html

If you are going with a torque converter I would recommend them first, they have good prices and the best customer service.

Thats pretty much what I was looking for thanks. Also one other quick question. When you guys are at the track, how do you launch? I havent done yet but you cant just stomp it, right? I'd spin to hell if I did that.

This is what they make drag tires for. ;)

Yeah but I'm not rich.

Practice and learning to feel the converter is what will give you your best launches. Go to the track and try out as many variations on techniques as you can. Try rolling onto the throttle, stabbing it from idle, stalling it up first and combine them until you find out which works best for your car and nets the best results. That is what I have found to work best for me.

You need really nice radials, preferably drag radials, in order to make use of a converter. I recommend TCI for an affordable converter. Search around, there is a LOT of info already on the board.

We have seen people knock off .6 on otherwise stock cars with stock tires. While to fully utilize the benefits of a stall converter, it is a good idea to get a sticky tire, even on street tires, the difference is big.

Sticking my foot in it from idle nets low 1.7 60fts for me with a stock tranny/eng and ET Streets.

If your not doing it already, drop your rear tire pressure to about 18 psi(invest in a good digital tire guage) and see if that helps.$.02

Will it take off on a green light if im just easing on the gas way up at like 3200 or is it only under heavy loads?

:bang:
A 3200 stall converter can be driven happily at 2k rpm in most vehicles. Think of it like slipping a clutch. It will just be at a higher rpm sooner than a lower stall converter.

Thats sweet. how much would a good 3200 be?

Search. Make sure a 3200 is what you want, and not higher. TCI SSF3500 goes for $480-$550. Or a TCI SF3000. Those would get my vote.
