Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about a TH400 swap..I think
I made my main decesion off of this post, I went with the TH400 too because I was going to be driving my car A LOT on the street which I will do with the TH400, I love it...
How long do the Th400's last on the street before they need a rebuild, I assume when everything is set and when we get some good weather around here I will be going to the track every other weekend or a lot on the week days, all depends... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Tim,
I just replied to your other thread. I didn't realize you had upped this one. I cant remember exactly what my guy told me doesn't hold up well in the 350's but if you want I'm sure he'd be more than happy to tell you. His name is Ken Wells and he runs a performance shop here in Orlando. His phone number is 407-839-6129. He did a GREAT job building my 400 and is a great guy to deal with.

How does this tranny act on the street? I will be swapping from an A4 in the future. It looks bad *** to drive, the only problem can see is the loss of overdrive. I am not one to complain, I can handle alot, I drive a trex on the street and its not that big of a deal to me. I will also be installing a 9" true spool for my next mod.

Great information. Thanks for posting. Are there any "small parts" that need to be ordered? It never fails that you get into a project like this and find that you need a different size bolt or something. And of course you dont discover this until you are covered in oil and have to go to a parts store only to find that they dont carry that exact bolt.

that's how i wired mine.
This is how I wired them up though, instead of connecting the wires together for the neutral safty and reverse lights, you just hook them up to the switches on the shifter. The only thing you need to figure out is which switch is which on the shifter.
A4 cars, connect these wires together that come out of the old shifter harness. It is a 6 wire connector going into the factory shifter.
purple + dark green = neutral safety switch, must be done to start vehicle(connect to one of the switches)
orange w/ black stripe + black wire = hatch release to work.
brown + light green wires = reverse lights (connect to other switch on shifter)
It's easy to figure which switch is which if you have the battery hooked up because if the switches are reversed, the reverse lights will be on in park.
If you wire it up like this your reverse lights, nuetral saftey switch and hatch release will all work just like they did with the 4l60e.

DOH!!! see i knew there would be things that I forgot to cover. Well as far as the PCM goes. If you're swapping from a T-56 there is no computer work to be done at all. You will get an SES light from the CAGS not being hooked up anymore but that can be taken care of with the skip shift eliminator I think. I havent done it yet. If you're swapping from an A4 you will need your computer done to delete the transmission control stuff. That's it as far as computer stuff goes. Hopefully there's nothing else I forgot to include. I'm going to try and put this all into a website when I get home from vacation and make it as clear, concise, and complete as I can.
