Best 60ft with Vig3200 and 3.23's?

I couldn't do better than a 1.69 last week. Stock 3.23 gears, mods in sig. Tires wouldn't even chirp, dead hook each and every time. I had about 5 1.70's, a 1.69 and a 1.71. The DA was around +1900. Raceweight was 3670lbs with me in it.

I tried experimenting with the launch but wasn't sure exactly how far I could stall it up without the tires breaking loose. I went as high as 2200rpm with no difference in 60ft, ET or mph.

Roarin_8 Jun 6, 2005 09:21 PM

Are you able to stall it up higher? Try leaving at 2500-3000 rpm.

SSPEEDY Jun 6, 2005 10:24 PM

I should be able to, I didn't really try experimenting until my last two runs. Since the actuall stall speed is 3800, I can't see why I wouldn't be able to bring it up to 3K or possibly a tad more. I had heard people saw late 1.5's with this converter (with bigger gears and reduced weight though).

1.74's 60ft. for me 3200 vig and 3.23's.

Try to find the breaking point for your tires. If they don't break loose, stall it higher and vise versa.

i dont run my yank by rpms.... i bring the rpms as high as they will go until i feel the tires almost start slipping

Roarin_8 Jun 7, 2005 09:10 AM

Right, you are finding the breaking point for the tires. If you check the rpms where they are almost slipping you are actually running it by rpm. ;)

I have 3:42's, my best so far is 1.63. I get my best from flashing it from idle. Also with the DA like that good luck.

right... but its hard to watch the light and the rpms without a large tach

Roarin_8 Jun 7, 2005 11:01 AM

True, gotta feel these things out.

JNorris Jun 7, 2005 11:59 AM

1.61 leaving from 1200.

cablebandit Jun 7, 2005 02:51 PM

1.59 on the 2step. mine was a multidisc

If you are not breaking the tires loose, with your particular combination, you are running the "best possible" 60 foot ET. Change your take off procedure, and "see" what the changes do, before you make rear end gear ratio changes, torque converter stall changes, etc.

Our 2001 Camaro SS could easily cut mid-high 1.6s. Best was a 1.64. :)

I'm not sure what the breaking point may be. It's kinda tricky because there is no prep on the street where I could just do a practice launch, they'll just go up in smoke.

On another note, I didn't think a higher DA could affect the launch because the car hasn't really started moving much distance. I'll try experimenting again when we get a cooler day around here. One good thing (which I hated) about the Nitto's is that you would rarely get a dead hook, the car actually felt stronger off the line because you'd shoot right up to redline faster. These tires make it feel like my car is bogging (on a sticky track).

JNorris Jun 8, 2005 03:43 PM

I really do not think you will 60 any better at your race weight and power level.
1.69 is very good.

Thanks John, I wanted to see if these short times were on par with others running the same converter and similar mods/power.

Just go to a test n tune day at your track. Should give you plenty of runs and you can find out what the tire threshold is.

sounds like to me you have too much tire for the car... those MT Drs in the 17 are very heavy and pretty tall for your car...

jmo

youll get it.. just keep at it.

Like he said, try flashing it instead of stalling it all the way up. In theory flashing tends to make it stall higher.

My best has been a 1.70 with slight spin.
