4L60E Trans ques (what's prolly broken)

Ok, long story short, I blew the trans cooler on my car last year, leaked fluid, and burned up the clutches pretty bad (trans pan had silver all over).

I changed fluid, car seemed ok, but I noticed the 1-2 shift slip a bit at WOT. Drove it a bit more, and then started hearing a sound that was like a vibration or a gittering. This only happen on the 3-4 shift. I'm guessing that the planteary gear was banging the sun gear, sound right?

Think theres any damage to the planetary gear? What else would be busted or damaged inside the tranny?

ALso, what are everyone's suggestions... My car will be pulling low 12s on motor next year (well this year) and mid high 11s to mid 11s on spray. Should I stick w/a stocky? Just get a 1000 rebuild, or should I go FLP Stage IV since I'll need it eventually anyways?

Finally, on a scale of 1-10 , 10 being the hardest, how difficult is a 4L60E to rebuild? My dad's rebuilt 4L80s before and is a car mechanic, so he should be useful. If I rebuild myself do I need to do anything special to get the extra clutches in (need to do more research on this, but i know one of the clutch packs inmproves 3rd gear by going from 6 to 9 clutches).

Thanks

What let loose on the cooler?

Here, for $20 you can get a book that should convince you not to do it yourself

As a guy that's been through the cheaper rebuilds in a former car (as well as the expensive ones), I'd HIGHLY recommend doing it right the first time with an FLP level IV trans. I dealt with one clean-up and 5 complete rebuilds on 4L60E's, and it's a MAJOR PITA. I didn't keep my T/A long enough to get an FLP level IV trans in it, but I bet if I had taken that route the first time that I might still have the car.

IT"S BROKE! Pull it. fix it. drive it. trans slipping is the death slip. catch it before anything starts to 'bang' and it wont get pricey.
It's like driving with a rod knocking. It's gonna quit. that's trans.

It's already kinda banging sounds like clutch pack is worn and planetary gear is banging into sun gear... but i think that's all part of the FLP Stage IV (forged internals if I understand)
