What stall for a 4000# car, 224 cam, 3.89s?
I'm helping a friend throw a LS1/4L60E combo in to an old impala. He's using a 224/112ls cam, and 3.89 gears. We're thinking a Yank 3000 will do him well, but I haven't used one in such a heavy car. Any suggestions?

Who the fu(k is this?!
Hey Terry,
The 3000 will tend to act like a bigger converter, due to the extra weight. It sounds like a good choice, what is the STR. That will decide if it is streetable.

I have a Yank 3000 2.0 STR coupled to 3.73's on my basically stock 01 Z28, and it is a great converter, HOWEVER, I wish I would have gone bigger at least a 3400 stall 2.5 STR.

I have a GTO which is pretty close to 4000lbs and I have a PI Vig 3200 stall with a 2.5 STR and it working out great. I kind of want to go bigger but this is a DD so the 3200 is a perfect fit. If you don't plan on this car being a dd I would go for a Vig 3600 or something similar. The GTO has a 3.46 just for reference.

Hi guys! You'll never guess what I'm driving now-and-days. I have a modified Neon SRT4, and I'm building a 92 Mustang race toy. I guess I got LS1'd out.
This guy needs something very streetable. Do you think a Vig 2800 would fit the bill?

An LS1 with that cam will benefit from more stall than that. The weight isn't going to increase the stall speed by more than a couple hundred rpm. If he wants to go fast, a 3500 is the minimum and a 4000 would be perfect. Just make sure the cooling is up to the job. For a daily driver, the vig 2800 will do fine. A Yank 3600 or TCI 3500 would also be ok.
