Default Anyone have Yank SS3200 before and after dyno run numbers?

I have read an STR higher than the unit stock results in a less eficient converter. I have also read that the Yank SS3200 is as efficient as a stock unit. Does anyone have any data or information one way or the other? I'm curious if installing a performance converter results in less oomph at higher speeds. Thanks for any info.

I believe what you have read, is correct to an extent. I have a SS3800, and can tell you that there is a large difference in RWHP and RWTQ between locked and unlocked. I can tell you I LOVE my SS3800, and it murders my street tires. I remember reading, on Yank' s website, before they updated it, that they claimed the SS-series was like 1% more efficient than the OEM 'verter, BUT, I do not know expactly what that represented. I know that I loose almost 40 RWHP when it' s unlocked, but, I do not know if, when my car was dyno' d the last time, with the OEM 'verter, if it was locked or unlocked. I think many will tell you when they run good DRs, or slicks, they get at least the same trap speed as before. I can not verify this, as I run street tires, and can' t go WOT until after the 60'. You may consider contacting Yank for more information. I know Fuddle is very active and he responded to my questions very quickly.

I am curious too. I figured any converter that slips more than stock cannot be as efficient as stock. Does Yank have any efficiency charts and dyno charts of its SS3200 compared to stock?

The SS3200 will put more power to the ground and pull harder on the top.
We had all of our converter dyno sheets on the web site up to last year and
the SS converters are more efficient than the stock one that is in the C-5 of 92.5 to 93% with a 1.8 STR the SS3200 is over 96% at the same peak RPM, plus it is lighter in weight

Thanks for that.

Curious to know, is that C5 converter typical of all GM 1.6STR/1800 converters out there? Reason is, my stock unit held 98% efficiency on the Dyno going by the TCC slip RPM. This was measured at 6000RPM.

Is there anything out there that can hold stock similar efficiencies of 98% yet deliver a higher than stock stall RPM up till 2800-3200RPM?

I have not seen a stock c-5 converter go above 93.6% on any testing and dyno sheets. The turbines used in that converter are not brazed, this allows the oil flowing thru the turbine to escape out the back side and put a slight amount of apply on the clutch plate at high rpm giving false data.
on our test units we dyno with and without the clutch installed to watch for this issue.
97% is about the max any true converter can get and still drive the car thru the converter as you need at least 3% slip -- pump overrunning the turbine to have fluid coupling
if you see more than 97% you have a converter clutch apply in the converter.

I have the Yank 3200 on my car it is best for off the line acceleration a good strip/street converter like yank says on there site.Get nittos you will need them.If you go higher stall around town, you will use more gas mileage but the lock up is good on highway driving.I've beatin 2005 GTO and Other stock cars with this converter.

I have a guy offering me a Yank 3200 stall with 2000 miles on it. I don't know what the STR is but if it is less than 2.3 I think I am going to get it. He has it for what I think is a good deal ($400) what do you guys think?

Not to hijack your thread just curious since this seems to be a good converter.

If it's the SS3200, the STR is 2.1.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. Is there anyway I could get ahold of that SS3200 dyno sheet? I'd really like to see it. Thanks!

May I ask for any dyno sheets for a SS3800 on a f-body ( if that matters )?

Thanks.

Default Yank converter Dyno sheets

The old Yank website had all the Dyno sheets posted online. That is actually the reason why I selected Yank for my converter purchase, because of their concrete dyno data. Why has this been removed from the new site? Could it possibly be put back on? The new site is glitzy and "slick" but does not provide the same level of information as the old one.

We will have new dyno sheets on our line posted after the first of the year. The old dyno tests had many models that we no longer build and the testing could not be continued as the test car was sold.
New testing will be on a converter only dyno
it will include all Yank converters and as many of the competition that we can get ahold of. (we have a good collection at this time)
This way your converter choice can be matched to your cars or trucks needs with real data on all converters tested!

We would like to hear ways to improve our website so please E mail any changes you would like to see
Thanks

I have an old SY3500 1.61 STR - dynoed 6rwhp higher locked than unlocked.
Even with the low STR - it will still obliterate street tires and drag radials.
