If your car still runs drive it around in third for a while. Cruising will be the same rpm as a th350, actually a th350 will cruise slightly higher since it has no lock up. Unless you get a th350c.

What do you think everyone did before they invented the overdrive?

I daily drove a TH350/3.73 every day for a year, it wasn't that bad. But I wouldn't trade what I have now that's for sure.

At 75mph speeds for 50 mile daily (one-way) commute, the drive wasn't too bad for me. However, that was with 2.73 gears. Without a tach, the engine speeds seemed about 2500. To have 3.73s, I wouldn't have done it.

With that said... for in-town driving, it shouldn't be a problem. If you're like me (50-mile commute), if you really want that TH350, stretch the rear end (taller gears). The OD setup for the TH350's are way too much to spend to gain practicality.

Just my $0.02.

You could get a lock up kit I guess.

What type of driving conditions do you usually see?

You could definitely do it, but that not to say it would be very practical.

It would be fine to tool around town in, but you wouldn't want to drive on the highway for anymore than a short period at a time. You'd be turning a lot of RPM's, an it would guzzle fuel like a truck.

Don't know because the speedo never worked right...it was never corrected...

It maxed at 85 and was usually about 20 over what you were actually doing...

If your getting a TH350 you shouldnt be worried about what RPM its turning at highway, just rest assured it wont blow when you need to go! Yes I have a TH350, only 3.23 gears though, but off the transbrake its awesome at the track, down the highway a slight throttling is equally impressive.

i used the TH350 with 4.10s as a daily driver. It was fine except for not being able to go on the highway. With 3.73s i dont see that as much of a problem. With stock gears you could obviously do it. Ive got 3.08's now and at 65-70 im idling at about 2-2250.

edit: i dont have a transbrake either.

Ditto that!

I am looking into a TH400 swap myself and I to have 4.10's. As a test, I put my car in 4th on the freeway and ran it up to 3K rpm which is 65 mph (about the same in a 400 in third with 4.10's). I gotta tell you, I wouldn't be going very far like that on the freeway and wouldn't want it be a DD, just to many revs for me . So I guess some 3.23's would help on the DD chore but wouldn't be the best for track duty.

That is true. But man, that would be great to have throttle response like that on the highway! If it didn't have to be a daily driver you could be doing a lot better on the track.

My SS is daily driven with a th350 and 4.10 gears. I drive it 90+ miles a day, mostly highway. I cruise along at 60-75 mph wich is about 3,000-3,750 rpm's. I did put some 31" all terrain tires on the back to help out with the rpm's. With 4.10s and 31's its about the same as 3.42's and stock sized tires.
And if that wasn't enuff my exhaust consists of a bullet muffler on each header. RACE CAR!
